A full-time postdoctoral scientist position is available at the University of California, Davis for up to three years in the area of 3D plant modeling. The postdoc will study the interaction between tree/orchard structure and function in determining potential yield in almond trees for varying orchard configurations and phenotypes by combining 3D plant models and new techniques for rapid measurement of tree structure based on LiDAR scanning data. The outputs of this work are expected to 1) provide guidance to almond breeding programs as to which phenotypes are likely to produce desirable growth and yield characteristics in the context of a particular environment, configuration, or management regime; and 2) inform almond orchard design and management decisions in order to produce desirable growth and yield characteristics. The postdoc will work in collaboration with Dr. Brian Bailey in the Department of Plant Sciences, and have access to a wide range of experimental almond plots, breeding variety trials, equipment, and other collaborations within and outside the department.
Candidates must hold a PhD at the time of position appointment. Funding is available starting summer of 2020, but start date is flexible. Salary is commensurate with the U.C. Davis postdoctoral scholar salary scale based on years of experience, and includes healthcare, retirement, and other benefits.
