Work Location: The position will be primarily located in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences (SPESS), LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Position Description: The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center is inviting applications for the position of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Weed Science in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences. This is a full-time, 12-month tenure track position with a 70% research and 30% teaching appointment.
Candidates are sought with the vision and expertise to develop and lead an innovative research program that advances integrated weed management and incorporates state-of-the art weed management technologies The candidate must communicate with commodity and agricultural industry partners to identify, develop, and implement critical research projects. The selected candidate is expected to obtain extramural funding to support research, mentor graduate students, communicate research results at professional meetings, and publish in refereed journals. Collaboration with research and extension faculty in Louisiana, and with national experts on issues of shared interest and importance is expected. Participation in multi-disciplinary, regional, and national research initiatives is essential. The candidate will mentor graduate students and post-doctoral scientists in weed science; participate in undergraduate advising and recruiting activities, and contribute to graduate and undergraduate teaching of weed science and crop production courses. The candidate will also be expected to participate in departmental and college activities including serving on academic committees.
Qualification Requirements: A Ph.D. in Weed Science or other closely related field of study is required. Good interpersonal skills and leadership abilities are required for working effectively with diverse professional and public audiences and cooperators. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with diverse audiences including scientific peers, clientele, and agribusiness representatives. Development of scholarly (peer-refereed) articles and educational curricula/programs for appropriate publications/journals and other outlets, including LSU AgCenter Extension publications, is required for professional development.
Evidence of successful grantsmanship, research activity, stakeholder interaction, and teaching experience will be important considerations. The ability to multi-task and work in a team environment with research, teaching, and extension faculty representing other disciplines is critical.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
