Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure Track) or Instructor
(Agricultural and Extension Education and Evaluation)
Work Location: This is a 12-month fiscal year, tenure-track position with a 55% appointment in the LSU Agricultural Center (AgCenter) campus administration and a 45% appointment in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education & Evaluation (AEEE) which is funded jointly by the AgCenter campus and the LSU A&M College of Agriculture. This position reports to the Vice President for Agriculture and Chancellor (or his designee), and the Department Head of AEEE.
Job Duties: 55% Provide oversight and direction for the program evaluation function of the AgCenter. Provide leadership to build the capacity of state and parish faculty to design, conduct, analyze, and report program impact. Develop training strategies and resource materials to ensure proper evaluation of extension program impact. Ensure appropriate training for new faculty. Provide regular assistance to state and parish faculty to evaluate the impact of extension programs, including but not limited to 4-H youth development, family and consumer sciences, and agricultural and natural resources disciplines. Provide technical guidance for the leadership team and various unit heads regarding program evaluation. Teach program evaluation and program development courses. Serve as a resource for AgCenter and College of Agriculture employees. Work with IT staff to ensure proper data collection and reporting. Coordinate preparation of the AgCenter’s federally required programmatic reports. This requires coordination with the 1890 partner, Southern University Agricultural Center, and with the finance staff in order to finalize the overall report. Provide training to faculty on data reporting.
45% Serve as a faculty member in the Department of AEEE teaching coursework and conducting research and extension work. AEEE prepares and supports highly qualified agricultural and extension professionals to teach, lead, and serve youth and adults. AEEE’s focus is on two of our greatest assets – the agricultural industry and our human capital. Students in this program learn about effective teaching methods and techniques as they are prepared for careers in both formal and non-formal education environments. Teach undergraduate and graduate coursework in agricultural and/or extension education. Develop a strong research program of national scope focused on extension education. Teach resident as well as distance education courses focused on extension education. Advise students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels (M.S. & Ph.D.). Participate in the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students in agricultural and/or extension education. Serve on departmental, college, and university committees. Develop a focused area for scholarship in and seek extramural funding and other opportunities related to agricultural and/or extension education. Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Qualification Requirements: For tenure-track ranks, Ph.D. by start date, in Extension Education, Agricultural Education, or related discipline. Experience in conducting and publishing research and/or scholarly work. For the Instructor rank, M.S. by start date in Extension Education, Agricultural Education, or other discipline related to the duties of the position. Minimum of 5 years of related experience required. Experience in conducting extension evaluations is highly desirable. Desire land grant experience, experience with program evaluation, and demonstrated experience with data collection and management. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
