The Department of Horticulture Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University is pleased to announce recruitment for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with formal appointments in teaching (80%) and research (20%).
We seek an individual to provide innovative pedagogy and expertise in teaching and mentoring associates degree, undergraduate and graduate students. This individual will teach 4-5 courses (17 credit hours) per year utilizing both face-to-face and distance education platforms and technologies. Courses this individual will be expected to teach or lead include Fruit and Vegetable Production, Weeds and Diseases of Ornamentals and may include courses in the areas of Introduction to Horticulture, Herbaceous Tropical and Perennial Plant Identification and Use, Viticulture, Public Garden Administration or others depending on the individual’s expertise and the department’s needs. The individual will establish a competitive, externally funded research program focused on their area of expertise. Publishing in peer-reviewed research or teaching journals and advising and mentoring of undergraduates during internships is expected. Additionally, this individual will participate in departmental or university committees and programs.

Ph.D. degree or terminal degree in Horticulture or a related field of study.
Experience in teaching (e.g., demonstrated by course evaluations, student comments, and a demonstration of curricular content developed).
Research experience in and knowledge of the production, cultivation, and identification of ornamental plants.
Curriculum and course development, assessment.
Experience in and knowledge of distance education technologies.
Experience in grant writing.
A successful record of collaboration and publishing.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
