We are looking for candidates with both academic and people skills who work well in teams, honor their commitments, and innovate in a rapidly changing world. The over-arching goal of this extension program is to provide a conduit through which useful information, otherwise unavailable, is delivered to the Seminole Tribe resulting in greater skill capacity and increased knowledge and adoption of best practices. There are two project areas: Agriculture (primary) and 4-H Youth Development (secondary).

The successful candidate will implement Florida’s Federally Recognized Tribes Extension Program (FRTEP). Primary program areas include "Increasing Knowledge of Optimal Production Strategies for Agricultural Operations" (about 60% of your time) and "Empowering Youth with Beneficial Skills in the Seminole Tribe of Florida" (about 40% of your time). As an extension educator, you will lead through the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs designed to assist diverse clientele.

What you will do as the Agriculture Extension Agent:

Provide cattle operations assistance for the Tribal Board and Council Operations, Seminole Tribe of Florida Natural Resources Department to improve forage quality, volume, and weed control, enhance cattle body condition scores, and increase stocking rates and conception.
Develop, conduct, coordinate, evaluate, and report on agricultural clientele educational programs.
Teach best management practices to protect water resources.
Work as part of a team with local producers, organizations, agencies, and UF/IFAS colleagues to promote agriculture.
Assist with soil and forage sampling.
What you will do as the 4-H Extension Agent:

Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive 4-H Youth Development Program in cooperation with county/state Extension colleagues and local citizens.
Deliver teaching and programs through 4-H clubs as well as school enrichment and special interest programs.
Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate 4-H program assistants and volunteers.
Ensure program policies, enrollment, record keeping, risk management, and experiential learning procedures are updated and accurate.
General duties:

Establish and maintain an effective system for accountability.
Lead acquisition and management of resources to support programming
Produce creative works like presentations, newsletters, educational games, and publications.
Participate in professional associations.
Write an annual plan of work and report of accomplishment.
Assume other responsibilities that benefit the total Seminole Tribe extension program as assigned by the District Extension Director.
Establish an advisory committee representing local demographics to seek input and advice on programing needs.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida (https://www.semtribe.com/stof) is a Federally Recognized Indian Tribe with a two-tiered government (Tribal Council and Board of Directors). This position will be located at the Brighton Reservation and include the other five reservations: Big Cypress, Hollywood, Immokalee, Fort Pierce, and Tampa. The Seminole Tribe is part of the Southeast Extension District made up of twelve counties.

Extension is a partnership between state, federal, and county governments to provide scientific knowledge and expertise to the public. As such, all partners are involved in the supervision of the office and contribute to the salary and support resources. The primary goal of Extension is to disseminate the latest knowledge and applicable technologies in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences in order to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. The UF/IFAS mission is accomplished through Extension faculty members, scientists, educators, administrative staff, and volunteers working cohesively throughout Florida’s 67 counties.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal sciences or a related field (with experience in youth development) from an accredited college or university. If hired with a bachelor’s degree, we expect you to make at least 50% progress towards obtaining your master’s degree within the first 6 years of employment. We will accept applicants without a bachelor’s degree if the degree will be earned by August 2021.
Effective written and verbal communication and a comfortable feeling presenting in front of small and large crowds.
Ability to establish solid partnerships and find innovative ways to attract new audiences and volunteers.
A valid Florida driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one), a physical examination, and the ability to pass a substance screening and a national background screening.
A flexible schedule that allows for irregular hours as well as the flexibility to travel both out of south Florida and out of state. Regular travel between reservations is common. (A work vehicle is provided for travel between reservations.)
A commitment to customer service.
What you will bring (preferred):

A master’s degree in agriculture, animal sciences, youth development or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Coursework and practical experience in agriculture and youth development.
Experience creating lesson plans, developing instructional materials, and applying teaching methods appropriate for a diverse audience.
Experience in working with volunteers.
Knowledge of and experience with cattle operations.
A strong commitment to community service and volunteer education.
Practical experience in extension education as well as working with diverse volunteers, youth and parents.
Evidence of exceptional collaborations, partnerships, and marketing with community agencies and groups.
Experience working in multicultural settings and with minority groups.
Ability to establish solid partnerships and find innovative ways to attract new and multicultural audiences and volunteers.
Technological literacy necessary for communication and program management, including social media.
