The Department of Animal Sciences seeks to employ a 9-month, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank in Ruminant Physiology whose scholarly endeavors focus on ruminant livestock reproductive and/or developmental biology. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a sustainable research program in one or more areas of basic science where ruminant animals are utilized for agricultural and/or biomedical applications. Among the areas of interest are molecular and cellular physiology of reproduction, epigenetic regulation of growth and development, gamete and embryo biology, perinatal origins of health and disease, physiological roles of genes involved in ruminant livestock growth, development, and reproduction and the relationship between nutrition and reproductive functions. This position will have a research (60%) and teaching (40%) emphasis. Anticipated start date: Spring 2023 semester or when a suitable candidate is appointed.

The successful candidate will be a member of cross-disciplinary teams building on a culture of academic collaboration with expectations to maintain a nationally and internationally recognized extramurally funded research program. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with current faculty to continue pursuing common themes within the Department which include Animal Development & Physiology; Nutrition & the Microbiome; Animal Health & Disease; and Animal Welfare & Human Animal Interactions. Teaching expectations include contributing to required courses within animal science’s programs, as well as training and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. The new faculty member is also expected to work closely with Extension educators, and partners in allied animal industries towards a common goal of fulfilling the university and college’s missions. All faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas of the Land Grant Institution (Research, Teaching and Extension). Faculty members have a shared responsibility to support and sustain the CFAES Principles of Community, and function in a collegial fashion.

Required Qualifications:

Requirements include a Ph.D. or equivalent in Animal Science, or a closely related discipline with an emphasis in physiology. Demonstrated excellence in innovative research and a strong commitment to teaching in developmental and/or reproduction biology is desired. Applicants must express strong interpersonal and communication skills and desire to collaborate with others in a collegial team environment. Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing or working in interdisciplinary teams and experience in mentoring members of underrepresented groups.
