- The tenure track system at Yamaguchi University provides a research environment (securing research space, etc.: see 15(3) ) which enables researchers to carry out independent research activity as a principal investigator (PI).

5 years
- The criterion to evaluate for tenure will be determined within 3 months after the appointment.
- The assistant professor will receive midterm evaluations on the 3rd year, and final evaluations by 6 months before the termination of the appointment (5 year), based on the results of research and education. The assistant professor who passes his or her tenure evaluation will receive a tenured position of associate professor, which is on a permanent basis with a mandatory retirement age.
-In the tenure evaluation, research achievements, grant acquisitions, activities in academic societies, awards received, domestic and/or international collaborations, educational achievements, social contributions and so on, will be considered comprehensively.

7. Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD degree or is expected to obtain the degree by the end of January, 2021 and under 40 years old (*1) as of February 1, 2020.
Applicants must also be enthusiastic about education and research in their field.

Assistant Professor:
- Has a Ph. D degree or is expected to obtain the degree within one year.
- Has more than two books or academic papers (original and refereed), and more than two as the first author out of these publications.
Evaluations of the books will be subject to the screening committee.

*1: Since this appointment is supported by Funds for the tenure track project of Yamaguchi University, these age restrictions are subject to exceptional treatment by the Ordinance for Enforcement of the "Koyou taisaku" Act 1-3 (1-(3-2)).

8. Employment Conditions Salary, allowances and benefits will be provided in accordance with

12. Selection process:
The screening committee of Faculty of Agriculture will evaluate the candidates’ expertise and research activities.
Candidates who pass the documentary examination will be asked to give a talk on their research and attend an interview at Yamaguchi University, in which the committee will ask her/him to present her/his research activities together with a five-year research plan in Japanese or English.
The committee may contact outside referees to ask for detailed information about the candidates. The evaluation procedure will be strictly impartial, but the evaluation of each applicant will not be released after the appointment is made.

Ⅰ. Gender Equality

Ⅱ. Yamaguchi University Tenure-Track (TT) System
(1) Mentors and Research Advisors are assigned to support research and education activities.
(2) As a start-up fund, 2,000,000 yen for the 1st fiscal year (FY), 1,500,000 yen for the 2nd FY, 1,000,000 yen for the 3rd and the 4th each FY will be provided at a maximum.
(3) Personal research spaces (office and laboratory) will be preferentially allocated for the TT Assistant Professor.
Various instruments such as LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, confocal microscope are available to the department of agriculture science faculty members.
The experimental farm is also available to use.

(4) Support for the outside fund acquisition will be provided by University Research Administrator (URA).

Ⅲ. Language
Japanese language proficiency is welcomed though not required. However, by the midterm evaluation, sufficient Japanese language proficiency to carry out ordinary university activities will be expected.
