Mississippi State University is seeking to fill a 12-month, 100% research, tenure-track assistant professor position in the field of vegetable crops. The position is housed at the Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station (30 miles south of Jackson) which is part of the Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center (CMREC). The academic home is in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences on MSU’s main campus. This horticulture position will focus on applied research in vegetable crops relevant to central and south MS in field, high tunnel, and greenhouse production systems. As an Assistant Professor, this faculty member will be expected to develop, coordinate, and implement applied research for Mississippi’s vegetable industry. Opportunities for basic research in support of applied research are also encouraged. The candidate will develop and maintain close working relationships with vegetable producers, Extension faculty and agents, and research scientists. The scientist will also be expected to work closely with Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) research colleagues to ensure vegetable and fruit research and outreach programs are focused on the needs of the stakeholders. This faculty member will maintain programmatic ties with research faculty, State Specialists, and other scientists in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at Mississippi State University. This scientist will carry out experiments, demonstrations, field days, and other research activities in collaboration with MAFES, USDA, and industry scientists. The scientist will also be expected to seek funding to support his or her program and partner with colleagues in grant proposals seeking applied research and outreach funding.
