(Healthy Communities Communications Coordinator)
(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Continuation will be dependent on funding, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
Work Location: LSU AgCenter School of Nutrition and Food Sciences, Knapp Hall, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Extension Associate will be located in Baton Rouge on the LSU campus. This is a grant-funded position with 80-100% time allocation to the Centers for Disease Control and SNAP-Ed Healthy Communities Programs.
Responsibilities: The Extension Associate will report administratively to PI for the CDC and SNAP-Ed Healthy Communities Program and work collaboratively with the SNAP-Ed and CDC Healthy Communities team. The position will serve as a liaison between the LSU AgCenter Communications department and CDC and SNAP-Ed Healthy Communities programs. The successful candidate will coordinate and support the communications efforts of the Healthy Communities Program.
Job Responsibilities include:
Written Communications- Write for website, social media, e-newsletters; Write news releases; Write content for promotional material; Write for Healthy Communities extension materials; Set up and conduct in person or written interviews
Social Media-Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media; Develop social media messages about Healthy Communities efforts and post daily; Post across social media platforms; Monitor social media accounts; Monitor and engage with accounts followed
Website Development-Assist with the maintenance of the Healthy Communities webpage; Develop web content; Prepare detailed media activity reports
Graphic Design—Create communications material using using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign; Develop parish level infographics including demographics and health data to share with community partners and stakeholders; Design and develop print ads for community newspapers to promote our healthy retail partner stores, coalition meetings; Design marketing materials (banners, push cards, flyers, point-of-sale prompts, etc.); Work with LSU Ag communications to develop a brand identity for the "Healthy Communities" program—includes a logo, templates, slogan.
Photography/Videography—Photograph Healthy Communities events as needed; Help organize and maintain photography archives; Work with LSU Ag communications department to develop promotional videos about the programs and program activities
General—Develop and manage comprehensive communications plans for CDC and SNAP-Ed Healthy Communities Programs; Collaborate with College of Agriculture and LSU AgCenter communications team with communication projects; Work with LSU Ag communications to develop a brand identity for the Healthy Communities program. This includes a logo, templates, slogan; Respond to communication-related issues in a timely manner
The incumbent is expected to perform other tasks at the state level that may be assigned by supervisor(s).
Qualification Requirements: A Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field. The applicant must demonstrate effective organization, administration and interpersonal communication, as well as networking skills. The candidate must exhibit superior project management and time management skills. Ability to set priorities, and to work on multiple projects with and through others is essential as well as the ability to function with minimal supervision. Must exhibit initiative and resourcefulness, and work cooperatively in a positive team environment. Ability to work occasional evening and weekend meetings and events statewide.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
