The University of Florida/IFAS Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and Miami-Dade County Extension seek to fill a Program Extension Agent faculty position. We are looking for candidates with both academic and people skills who work well in teams, honor their commitments, and innovate in a rapidly changing world. EFNEP is a federal Extension (community outreach) program that currently operates through Land-Grant Universities in every state, the District of Columbia, and six U.S. Territories. Using a research-based interactive approach, peer educators from the communities they support reach limited-resource families. UF/IFAS Extension EFNEP in Miami-Dade County offers series-based nutrition education to eligible adults. Your comprehensive extension education program will be guided by an advisory committee that incorporates the needs of the county’s diverse population. You will demonstrate excellent customer service and you will respond to client needs in a timely and professional manner. Your office will be located in Miami Lakes.

What you will do:

As the county-level EFNEP agent you will be responsible for the operation of EFNEP in Miami-Dade, including 1) leadership and program development; 2) Extension Program Assistant (PA) hiring, training, and management; 3) program evaluation and reporting.

Leadership and program development

Develop a program plan for Miami-Dade (MD) EFNEP based on needs assessments, approved Five-Year Plans, and annual USDA NIFA feedback reports.
Establish local processes to ensure compliance with EFNEP state office, UF IFAS, and USDA/NIFA policies and procedures.
Form partnerships with community organizations for policy, system and environmental (PSE) changes to improve healthy eating and active living.
Foster systems that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Collaborate with UF/IFAS Extension faculty and staff (e.g., the Family Nutrition Program) to promote understanding of and involvement with EFNEP.
Form an EFNEP-specific Advisory Committee to identify county food, nutrition, and physical activity needs among EFNEP-eligible adults, report progress, and enlist assistance.
Seek opportunities to build program and community capacity.
Participate in professional development opportunities and in professional organizations and networks.
Responsible for ensuring data quality and fiscal integrity.

Extension Program Assistant (PA) hiring, training and management:

Coordinate hiring process, provide onsite onboarding
You will provide a minimum of 16 hours of training per month for PAs in your unit on topics like educational approaches, nutrition updates, technology, curriculum, or other items as needed. A part of your mentoring of PAs is observing and evaluating teaching and providing feedback and assistance.
You will be responsible for all programmatic administration, including verifying PA timecards, travel, and activity reports for accuracy. All reports and evaluation materials are expected to be completed and submitted in a timely manner to the EFNEP State Office.
You will assist PAs in locating appropriate agencies and gain access to facilities for programming purposes. You will work collaboratively with your PAs to schedule programs at each location.
Assess individual PA training needs and provide customized training as needed. Recommend training content for PA self-study training. Ensure that PAs meet minimum training requirements as defined in their position description.
Become ServSafe® certified and help train PAs to achieve ServSafe® certification.
Interpret and enforce UF and program policies for Extension Program Assistants directly supervised by this position.
Provide ongoing support, address staff performance issues, and recognize and celebrate staff accomplishments.

Program evaluation and reporting

Prepare an annual and special reports to show the results of planning, program accomplishments, and changes in Pas, program participants, volunteers using the EFNEP reporting system.
Report program impacts to Extension administrators, the public, Advisory Committee, Extension groups and interested agencies and organizations through information days, achievement events, letters, personal contacts, or specially prepared materials.
Use an established system for maintaining records for reporting purposes.
Collect, review, and analyze external and internal feedback as required by the federal office and as directed by the EFNEP State Office faculty and staff.
Evaluate EFNEP PAs as a means of improving performance.

Other responsibilities that benefit the total county extension program as assigned by the EFNEP PI, Coordinator, Training and Education Specialist, County Extension or District Extension Director.

Miami-Dade County (https://www.miamidade.gov/global/home.page ) with a population more than 2.7 million is located on the southern tip of Florida peninsula. The main Extension office is located in Homestead (https://sfyl.ifas.ufl.edu/miami-dade/) about 1 mile from the UF/ IFAS Tropical Research and Education Center (http://trec.ifas.ufl.edu/). There are also four satellite Extension offices located in Hialeah, Palmetto Bay, Miami Lakes, and on the University of Miami campus on Virginia Key.

This position is located in Miami Lakes, FL. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Due to the nature of this position, some early or late hours and travel will be required. In addition, some overnight travel will be required, including trips to the University of Florida main campus. Participation in Extension community events on weekends as requested by the District Extension Director or County Extension Director, and allowable by program guidelines, may be required. You must always be available/on-call when Program Assistants are in the field providing nutrition education. Miami-Dade County Extension is part of the Southeast Extension District made up of twelve counties and the Seminole Tribe.

The primary goal of Extension is to disseminate the latest knowledge and applicable technologies in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences in order to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. JOB QUALIFICATIONS
What you will bring (required):

A bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, public health, or a related field from an accredited college or university and two years of related experience. We will accept applicants without a bachelor’s degree if the degree will be earned by December 2021. If hired solely with a bachelor’s degree, we want you to continue to grow in your career. As such, we expect you to make at least 50% progress towards obtaining your master’s degree within the first 6 years of employment.
Strong written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to establish solid partnerships and to find innovative ways to attract new audiences.
A commitment to customer service.
Ability to possess (or be able to obtain) a valid Florida driver’s license.
Flexibility with working hours; willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight travel.
Willingness to work with all audiences regardless of race, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political viewpoint, or economic status.
