ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF POULTRY VIROLOGYIN POPULATION HEALTH AND PATHOBIOLOGY NCSU COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE
The Department of Population Health and Pathobiology at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor of Poultry Virology.
DVM with related research expertise and experience or a PhD in poultry virology.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
DVM or equivalent degree with eligibility for, or receipt of, Diplomat status of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (DACPV).
This position resides in The Department of Population Health and Pathobiology the successful candidate will be required to establish an independent research program. It is expected that the
individual will explore the pathogenesis and control of viral disease(s) of importance to the poultry industry. The individual must have the ability to adapt to the multiplicity of viral diseases and problems that affect the diverse poultry industry (broilers, turkeys, breeders, and layers). The candidate should be willing to implement and expand procedures used in classical and molecular virology to identify and characterize poultry viruses in order to develop appropriate mitigation strategies where possible. Additionally, the candidate will enhance CVM's poultry virology research program through continual dialogue, interaction and support of poultry producers, veterinarians and the NC poultry industry and producers; the successful candidate will develop a strong working relationship with the poultry industry. The successful candidate will be involved with the CVM diagnostic services, including but not limited to development and/or implementation of diagnostic tests and surveillance related to the poultry industry needs. The selected individual will be expected to liaise with the NC Department of Agriculture diagnostic laboratory at the Steve Troxler Agricultural Sciences Center and the NC Poultry Industry. In addition to research and outreach, the successful applicant will teach DVM students and train
graduate students and House Officers, particularly those residents who select to complete the optional master's degree in poultry medicine.
