Job Description Summary
The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology of the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist, specializing in vegetable and fruit entomology. This faculty position is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure track 75% Extension and 25% research appointment based on the main campus in Auburn, AL. This position includes benefits such as health insurance and retirement. The projected start date is June 1, 2024.
Responsibilities: In this position, the successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an impactful Extension and research program focused on the integrated management of insect and mite pests associated with major vegetable and fruit crops in Alabama. Successful candidate will establish themselves as the in-state expert for vegetable and fruit pests. The research efforts should include grant proposal writing, management of funded projects, scientific outputs such as papers and presentation, as well as support and mentoring of at least one graduate student. They should build an Extension program with in-state, regional and national recognition. The person in this position will be expected to collaborate with not only scientists within the college, but also groups, organizations, and scientists across the region.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Entomology, Biology, or related discipline at the time employment begins. The candidate must have research experience with arthropod pests of vegetable and/or fruit crops, integrated pest management, monitoring, and field research. Experience with pests of fruit and vegetable crops of the SE US is desired, but experience in either fruit or vegetable IPM, or field crops IPM will also be considered. Candidates should have documented experience or demonstrated ability in Extension programing and resource development. The successful candidate must have documented experience and/or demonstrated ability in an applied research program resulting in peer-reviewed publications, and research presentations. Must have excellent organizational and strong interpersonal skills. The incumbent must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Desired qualifications include experience with, and strong interests in, Extension programming, post-doctoral experience, experience working in teams, and experience preparing proposals for submission to federal funding agencies.
