POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Work Location:  LSU AgCenter Dairy Store, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

 

Position Description The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operations and management of the store. The manager will coordinate with SAS administrative personnel to ensure that the store’s finances are effectively managed and that appropriate controls are in place and adhered to. The manager will supervise all personnel involved in these activities. Specific duties include managing schedules and ensuring the store is properly open and closed daily. Maintain inventory including posting records on receipt of stock, other inventory, and food sold through the Dairy Store. Manage pricing of food items. This includes reviewing cost and market data. Manage food items ready for sale, including a selection of stock items and stocking shelves. Manage the sale of products in the Dairy Store, online, and those associated with Chartwells and other on and off-campus clientele. Schedule and coordinate tours. Ensure that orders for the annual cheese sale are properly entered into the database. Oversee the operation of a cash register and credit card machine, ensure timely deposits are made, and order supplies. Monitor all activities and recommend changes to improve efficiency, enhance the Dairy Store, and ensure appropriate financial, inventory, and stock controls.

 

The candidate will also be responsible for conducting Standard Plate Counts and Coliform Counts on incoming raw milk and pasteurized finished products produced in the Creamery.  Babcock testing for fat on raw and finished products will also be required as well as testing for antibiotic residues in raw milk, and Yeast and Mold testing of finished products.  The candidate will conduct Titratable Acidity testing on cheeses being produced for retail sale and conduct microbiological testing of the creamery's chilled water supply.  The candidate will also conduct tests to monitor the strengths of the chlorine and peroxi-acetic acid sanitizer solutions used in the Creamery.

 

The candidate will also help with the manufacture of products; assist supervising faculty members with ice cream mix and ice cream manufacturing; cheese manufacturing and cheese packaging; and the yearly mail-order cheese sale.  This may include supervision of support personnel and other management activities.

 

Qualification Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree required, MS preferred.  Experience in manufacturing ice cream and cheese, assembling and mechanically inclining with ice cream equipment as well as working in a retail ice cream store will be helpful.

 

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
