  • Sustainable Food Systems Resource Specialist (Postharvest/Consumer Science)

    In keeping with the President’s commitment to Tuskegee University becoming an “Outcomes-Oriented University,” the ideal Sustainable Food Systems Resource Specialist (Postharvest/Consumer Science) will possess the willingness to use their expertise to assist in the university’s efforts to be a sustainable academic organization committed to excellence.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

    Assist with organization and reporting under the TUCE Sustainable Food Systems Program
    Assist with supervising undergraduate students and/or interns in various community food system projects in Postharvest, Value Addition, and Food Safety
    Provide county and local leadership in providing assessments/reports on Food Systems in the Alabama Black Belt
    Organize/Support the coalition of growers, markets, and consumers around sustainable solutions to food insecurity
    Organize/Support the deployment of consistent TUCE demonstrations and workshops related to Sustainable Food Systems (Postharvest, Value Addition, Food Safety)
    Participate in CAENS, CISC, TUCE Integrated Research and Extension programs and other Departmental activities as requested
    Work with CAENS faculty and staff on integrated programs at the Black Belt Marketing and Innovation Center (BBMIC – Selma, AL), Tuskegee University Global Center for Postharvest Research and Training (TUGCP – Tuskegee, AL), and Red Meats Processing Facility (Tuskegee, AL) as well as the multiple Farmers Markets that Tuskegee University is partnered with throughout the Alabama Black Belt.
    Other duties as assigned by the Extension Administrator or Associate Dean for Extension

    Qualifications

    Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years’ work experience with special emphasis in Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, and/or Economics
    Ability to work with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders
    Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently
    Ability to work with faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders
    Ability to work as a team

    Salary
    Commensurate with education, training, and experience

    Additional Position Information:

    This position may require weekend and after work hours’ job responsibilities, depending on assignments?
    This position require you travel, local (mainly) and out-of-state (sometimes).
    This position funded through restricted outside funding.
