(This is a grant funded non-tenure track position. Continuation of employment will be dependent on funding availability, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.)
Work Location: This position will be housed at the Louisiana State University AgCenter – Macon Ridge Research Station in Winnsboro, LA. Collaborative work will also be conducted at other LSU AgCenter Research Stations which include Northeast, Dean Lee, Red River, Ben Hur, Rice, and other locations as necessary.
Position Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting resident scientist prepare and issue data reports, design, plant, and execute field research trials in corn, soybean, cotton, grain sorghum, rice, and wheat. Responsibilities will include field preparation, establishment of field plans, operation and/or use of farm equipment, and data scheduling, collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation. Additional responsibilities will include fertilizer and pesticide applications in test plots, maintenance of field plots, equipment calibration, detailed note taking of daily operations, and manage the daily operations and duties of transient workers. The candidate also will be expected to help maintain all field and laboratory equipment, order supplies as needed, and help maintain research plot records and fertilizer and pesticide inventory. Responsibilities also involve some travelling to different research stations and producer fields.
Qualification Requirements: The position requires a B.S. in agronomy, soil science, plant pathology, entomology, plant science, biological sciences, or a closely related field. Knowledge and skills in organization, time management, handling pesticides, using word-processing, spreadsheet, and data base management software is essential. Farming and/or field crop research experience is desirable. The successful candidate must have acceptable written and oral communication skills.
