    Promotion of geographical indications for rural sustainable development e: Geographical indications, cost-benefit ratio for agro-foods and dissemination of the practice as a way to add value to Brazilian agricultural systems


    Main objectives: Analyze the quality and specific specifications achieved with geographic indication (GI) recognition. He/she will analyze the importance of collective action, agro-industrial value chains and governance and effective marketing efforts, the investment capacity generated causing agro-industrial dynamism in the territory, identify trade-offs and the dilemmas between exclusivity versus inclusion.


    Activities: Manage the PhD scholar(s) to make calculation estimates, develop scenarios and modeling to show the data identified in the documentary and field research and compare the criteria identified that imply incremental costs and gains; The fellow will seek to calculate the impacts on price, on production volumes, on market access and competitiveness, on the resilience of the product/service to crises and price drops, on the level of local economic development, identifying causal mechanisms and success factors.


    The fellow will be based at the Economics, Administration and Sociology Department of the University of São Paulo's Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture in Piracicaba, Brazil.

    This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly (in force starting August 1st) and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
