POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
This is a one-year grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Continuation of employment will be dependent on funding availability, job performance, and continued need for the appointment.
Work Location : This position will be housed at the Louisiana State University AgCenter – LaHouse Resource Center in Baton Rouge, LA.
Position Description : This is a 12-month, non-tenure track position in the LSU Agricultural Center Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering at the LaHouse Research and Education Center. The assistant professor position has a 50% research, 50% extension appointment. The successful candidate will conduct natural hazard risk research and extension on use-inspired research to improve resilience with statewide constituents. The successful candidate will plan and conduct resilient community research and extension programs, manage projects, conduct extension program evaluations, prepare impact reports and peer-reviewed research and extension products, and attend and present at national and international conferences. This position collaborates with researchers at LaHouse, within the LSU AgCenter, at Louisiana State Agricultural and Mechanical University (LSU A&M), and at other universities.
Duties of the assistant professor position include :
The assistant professor position has a 50% research, 50% extension appointment.
60% - This position will be responsible for natural hazard risk reduction research and extension, as well as the general promotion of LaHouse programs and services to increase visibility and provide improved access to information about resilient, sustainable, and healthy homes. The successful candidate must create methodologies and comprehensively quantify the adoption of risk reduction techniques and policies and assist in determination of generalized hazard risk reduction across the state from various mitigation practices. The successful candidate will lead development and evaluation of extension content and programs related to natural hazard risk and risk reduction, delivered to a variety of audiences, including emergency managers, floodplain managers, government officials, real estate agents, insurance agents, builders, and the public. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders, engage community officials and citizens, and reduce natural hazard risk in Louisiana.
20% - The job duties include, but are not limited to, collaborating with extension personnel, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, scientists, engineers, and designers; organizing and leading meetings; preparing progress and final reports for compliance with contract requirements; conducting literature reviews; collecting and analyzing data; attending grant-related meetings; and preparing publications, reports and presentations. This position will also be responsible for preparing extension publications, figures, maps, and charts for purposes of scientific communication.
10% - The successful candidate is also expected to manage and build their own extension and research programs according to the policies, mission, priorities, and strategies of LaHouse Resource Center, the Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering, LSU Agricultural Center, and the State of Louisiana. The candidate will build strategic partnerships with local, regional, and national partners in support of extension work.
10% - Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications : An earned doctorate in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Community Development, Planning, Business, Extension Education, Agricultural Education, or related field is required. The ability to efficiently collect, track, and analyze data is required. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights. The ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and manage multiple project aspects simultaneously is essential.
Preferred Qualifications : Professional extension experience collaborating with extension or research teams. Proficiency in statistical analysis software and data visualization tools. Specific experience in creating and implementing community programs focused on reducing the impact of weather-related disasters on communities and citizens. Experience in extension-specific data analysis, impact reporting and/or program evaluation.
