  • Postdoctoral Position in Agricultural and Natural Resources Economics Modelling

    The project aims to relate soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration and the economic behavior of farmers, focusing on strategies to increase SOC storage in the Brazilian agriculture. The opportunity involves continuing the development of an inter-regional computable general equilibrium (CGE) model to analyze the economic and environmental impacts of economic policies and new technologies in Brazil. The project supporting this position will focus on: 1) recalibrating the land-use transition module in the model; 2) developing the second-crop analysis module for agriculture in Brazil; 3) detailing the corn ethanol and other production sectors in Brazil; 4) analyzing prospective climate change impacts on Brazilian agriculture and livestock, using results from other ongoing projects at CCARBON; 5) developing a soil carbon module for Brazil based on spatially distributed data.


    In addition to the specific activities listed above, the postdoctoral researcher will also be involved in managing PhD students gradually incorporated into the project, as well as in database management, literature review, and writing scientific papers related to the work.


    Qualifications: demonstrated prior experience in the development and use of CGE models for policy analysis, using the GEMPACK software. Familiarity with GEMPACK is an essential requirement for carrying out the activities. Familiarity with the economic and environmental aspects of Brazilian agriculture and livestock. Ability to work with large spatially distributed datasets is an additional advantage.

    This position is for 2 years (with possible extension) and is open to both Brazilian and foreign applicants. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellowship in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 per month, plus a Technical Reserve equivalent to 10% of the annual scholarship amount to cover unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity.
