    POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT









    Work Location: The position will be based at the Tom H. Scott Research and Extension Center near Winnsboro, LA.  Opportunities for research and extension activities exist at three research stations in the Northeast Region and in the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences on the LSU A&M campus in Baton Rouge, LA.  The Northeast Region’s field stations include over 1,000 acres of crops with research and extension demonstrations. Research projects will be located at the regional research stations with opportunities to expand that work to other regions of Louisiana.   


     


    Position Description: Full-time 12-month, tenure-track position with a 70% extension and 30% research appointment. Statewide responsibilities for agronomic soil fertility outreach and education will be the focus of this position.  Similar programming for other commodities may be associated with this position based upon the scientist’s skills, training, and personal interest.  Extension educational responsibilities will focus on improving the delivery of soil fertility and soil health information and crop production best management practices (BMP’s) to stakeholders including, producers, agents, crop consultants and related field crop industries in Louisiana.  Critical extension programming needs include development of training modules (electronic and paper materials) for agricultural agents, information delivery to stakeholders, on-farm demonstrations of recommended practices, and collaboration with a multi-disciplinary faculty.  The needs of the field crop industries will be addressed with personal contacts, workshops, public presentations, professional writing, electronic communications, and web-based content. Contributing to annual reports of official variety trials and providing other outreach necessary to stakeholders of project activities and findings will also be required.  The individual will collaborate with other faculty to complement existing agronomic research and extension programs in the Region.  Advisory groups for program priorities will include crop consultants, commodity groups, the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and Louisiana Farm Bureau.  


     


    Qualification Requirements: PhD in soil science, agronomy, or other closely related agricultural field of study is required. Training in soil science and nutrient management for field crops, as well as, experience in applied crop production practices is highly desirable.  Applicants should have evidence of effective oral and written communication skills for information transfer to a variety of audiences.


     


    Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
