    POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT









    Work Location: The position will be primarily located in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences (SPESS), LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.


     


    Position Description: The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center is inviting applications for the position of Research Associate of Plant Breeding in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences. This is a full-time, 12-month grant-funded position with an annual appointment based on availability of funding and satisfactory work performance.


     


    Candidates are sought with the knowledge and expertise to support a research program that conducts a plant improvement program on oat and wheat. The candidate will also coordinate activities essential to coordination of the USDA International Oat Nursery, growing a summer nursery in Idaho, including packaging, obtaining phytosanitary certificates, and shipping the USDA International Oat Nursery (ION) to collaborators around the world. The candidate must communicate with collaborators of the ION and support the LSUAC wheat and oat breeding activities on a daily basis.


     


    Qualification Requirements: A B.S. or M.S. in plant breeding or other closely related field of study is required. Good interpersonal skills and leadership abilities are required for working effectively with diverse professional and public audiences and cooperators. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with diverse audiences including scientific peers, clientele, and agribusiness representatives. The candidate should be experienced in use of plant breeding equipment such as planters, combines, and sprayers.


     


    The ability to multi-task and work in a team environment with research, teaching, and extension faculty representing other disciplines is critical.


     


    Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
