    POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Work Location: Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Position Description: Invertebrates are in rapid decline globally. Aquatic invertebrates such as corals and freshwater mussels are particularly at risk from pollution, habitat destruction, invasive species, and climate change. There is great need to develop germplasm repositories and technologies to protect genetic resources for biomedical, conservation, and biological research communities. As such, responsibilities for this position include: (1) development of an independent research program that combines invertebrate biology and technology development to address cryopreservation of genetic resources; (2) collaboration with engineers to produce practical devices for germplasm repository development and maintenance; (3) coordination and outreach for repository development with national aquatic biomedical animal stock centers and emerging aquatic model organism communities, and (4) development of manuscripts and conference presentations to disseminate information on work performed. Work after hours including weekends will be required periodically. Familiarity with biological research, engineering, animal husbandry, and cryobiology of aquatic organisms is strongly preferred.

Qualification Requirements: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biological sciences, genetics, fisheries, aquaculture, engineering, or in a related field. Strong experience in invertebrate biology, cryopreservation, experimental design, genetic resource management, consumer and commercial-scale 3D printing, and statistical analysis is preferred. Previous supervision of undergraduate and graduate students and STEM education is highly desirable. Candidates must have strong written and oral communication skills and strong organizational skills.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. Current benefits offered include retirement, multiple medical insurance options, supplemental insurances (dental, life, long-term disability, accident, vision, long-term care, etc.), Tax Saver Flexible Benefits Plan (saves tax dollars on some child care and medical expenses), university holidays (14 per year, typically includes a week off at Christmas), generous annual (vacation) and sick leave benefits, Employee Assistance Program, and possible educational leave and tuition exemption for coursework at campuses of the LSU System. Specific benefits depend on job category, percent effort and length of employment.

Date Available: Upon completion of interview process.

Application Deadline: April 13, 2024, or until a suitable candidate is located.

Application Procedure: Qualified candidates must apply online at https://lsu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/LSU (or through Workday for internal applicants) by attaching letter of interest, vita, official university transcripts, and three letters of recommendation.
