This position supports the newly created Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS) at NMSU. Water challenges include more efficient crop water use, sustainable aquifer protection and use, water reconditioning and reuse in food production and processing, and clean water for safe food production. Also included are protection of water supplies for agriculture, sustaining soil productivity, managing wastewater and produced water, developing reconditioning and reuse treatment technologies, and sustainably managing watersheds for improved water quality, quantity, timing, and location.

NMSU carries a distinguished track record of excellence in water research, education, and outreach. This position will complement many water programs at NMSU. Water-related faculty are housed at all Colleges in the University, described at https://nmsu.edu/colleges.html The Water Science and Management (WSM) Graduate Degree Program, described at https://wsm.nmsu.edu/ enrolls about 40 graduate student researchers advised by faculty advisers from several ACES departments and other colleges across the university.
