Scientific Aide II


Location: Twin Falls

Pay Range: $16.18 per hour or higher depending on experience

Position Summary:

Provide support to two program leaders (50% time in Waste Management program and 50% time in Nutrient Management program) by implementing the goals of waste management including manure nutrient management, production of value-added products from waste, monitoring and mitigation of air and water impacts caused by livestock production systems, land application of solid and liquid bi-products generated by livestock production systems, soil nutrient management, and water quality research and extension programs in Idaho. These two programs emphasize lab and on-farm research with greenhouse components, along with extension programs focusing on dairy manure treatment and utilization, environmental quality, and fertility issues for potatoes, sugarbeets, small grains, corn, and other Southern Idaho crops. Duties include planning, establishing, and conducting lab and on-site research, and extension demonstrations; collecting and analyzing manure, soil and water samples; analyzing research data and helping with the preparation of research reports, presentations and publications; and supervising part-time employees.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education: Bachelors degree in Agricultural Engineering/Soil science or similar fields related to research areas mentioned above.

Have three years of related experience.

Knowledge of: engineering and scientific principles.

Ability to: work under animal farming environment, perform specialized tasks and lab techniques, supervise part-time and full-time temporary help employees, and collaborate with others.

Preferred Qualifications:


MS in soil or water science, agricultural engineering or related field.

Experience in: manure nutrient analysis, wastewater treatment, air quality, manure treatment; soil fertility and nutrient management; manure field application; irrigated crop production; familiar with statistics software such as SAS and R.

Coursework in Statistics.

Strong ability to: deliver oral presentations at public and professional meetings; plan, implement, and develop waste and nutrient management research projects.

Experience in working on animal and crop farms, using GPS technology and GIS software; managing budget.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

Ability to lift, carry, and/or otherwise move 50 pounds.

Able to work overtime, travel more than 150 miles from the Twin Falls Research and Extension Center, and travel overnight.
