My research broadly addresses the pattern and dynamics of forests and how to apply this knowledge to inform management. Some of the main areas of research under this theme include:
· The ecological impacts of disturbances, both natural and human-caused, on forests with an emphasis on forest regeneration and stand dynamics under active forest management.
· Addressing emerging impact factors, such as climate change and biological invasion, on forests and using this to inform adoption of silvicultural approaches for mitigating these impacts.
· Research on the efficacy of management practices for meeting diverse non-timber objectives, including research that addresses the consequences of wildlife habitat management on forest vegetation and how to modify these practices to also meet silvicultural objectives.
· The application of silviculture where the restoration of historic natural communities is a primary objective.
