My research focuses on examining the impacts of environmental change on the functional structure of freshwater fish communities. Specifically I am interested in examining how the abundance of functional groups, like specialists that might require a certain substrate or flow regime to successfully reproduce, varies with anthropogenic or natural variation in flow, water quality, or other habitat characteristics. Ultimately I hope to identify patterns that may translate beyond the specific streams I study. My work may help us understand and predict changes in community structure occurring in fish species assemblages across the country or around the globe that are experiencing similar changes in abiotic factors
