New Mexico State University (NMSU) Department of Animal & Range Sciences seeks a 9 month Assistant or Associate Professor of Animal Science in Livestock Microbiome. The appointment will be research (75%) and teaching (25%) that includes classroom and possible remote teaching responsibilities in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences. The successful applicant will develop an innovative research program including but not limited to beef cattle as related and affected by gut health and the animal microbiome oriented toward improving animal health, performance, food-safety, and minimizing the environmental impact of New Mexico’s animal industries. Teaching will be at the graduate levels, focused on providing a rich learning experience to students. Postdoctoral experience in a related field is highly desired. Excellent communication skills appropriate for technical and non-technical audiences; demonstrated track record of collaborative research, including seeking and acquiring external funding and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; experience managing student research projects and training students in research; demonstrated interest in, and experience with, innovative teaching modalities.
A Ph.D. in animal science or related field or a DVM is required by the date of hire. Strong potential for, or established record of effectiveness in, teaching, research, and public service; and interest in developing projects of relevance to agricultural stakeholders
