POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Job Description

Work Location: School of Animal Science, Baton Rouge, LA, 70803.

Position Description: The School of Animal Science is seeking an Animal Science Instructor. This position is a 12-month appointment with responsibility for research/ teaching within the School of Animal Science.

40% Teaching:  Candidates will be expected to teach one or two courses per semester in animal sciences including one section of Introduction to Animal Science. Development of an additional course will be required to fill departmental needs and may include, but are not limited to, systemic physiology, career opportunities in animal science or translational models in animal science.

60% Research: Candidates will be expected to develop an active research program in an area relevant to animal science.  These areas of research may include, but are not limited to physiology, assisted reproductive techniques, genomics or developmental biology.  This research program is expected to address production needs for animal industries in Louisiana, the region and nationally in addition to providing opportunities for undergraduate students to obtain research experience

Facilities: Louisiana has vibrant animal industries with strong linkages to the School of Animal Sciences in beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, small ruminants and poultry.  The School of Animal Sciences also has strong ties with the animal and human Assisted Reproductive Technology industries.  The School of Animal Sciences has a new state of the art research laboratory building supporting research in physiology, nutrition, meat science, immunology, genomics and developmental biology. The School of Animal Sciences also operates large, centralized farm units in beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, small ruminants, and poultry available for research and teaching.  

Qualification Requirements: M.S., DVM equivalent or Ph.D. (preferred) in Animal Science or related field with knowledge of animal health and/or food production animals.

Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. LSU has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. Benefits offered include retirement, multiple medical insurance options, supplemental insurances (dental, life, long-term disability, accident, vision, long-term care, etc.), university holidays (14 per year, typically includes a week off at Christmas), generous annual (vacation) and sick leave benefits, Employee Assistance Program, and possible educational leave and tuition exemption for coursework at campuses of the LSU System. Specific benefits depend on job category, percent effort and length of employment.
