This advertisement seeks to fill an open postdoctoral position in the Brzozowski Lab in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences at University of Kentucky. We study plant traits that contribute to plant adaptation, plant-pest interactions, and human nutrition in agricultural systems. We apply our findings towards plant breeding of winter oats and winter rye.
 
The selected candidate will investigate variation in biochemical traits in oats related to stress resilience. The key focus of this position is dissecting how biotic stresses shift biochemical profiles over the course of plant development. Research will take place in greenhouse, laboratory, and computational settings, where the selected candidate will use genomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics. The selected candidate be responsible for conducting experiments, supervising undergraduates involved in the project, managing data, analyzing data, and writing scientific papers to disseminate the results. 
 
The selected candidate will work with Dr. Brzozowski on manuscript preparation, meeting presentations and grant writing, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with graduate students in the lab on oat breeding. The selected candidate will work at University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY), and will have opportunities for collaboration and networking with project collaborators at University of Minnesota and other programs. 
 
The anticipated division of time is conducting experiments and analyzing data (75%), writing (15%), and mentoring (10%). This position is funded by a USDA-NIFA project for one year with the opportunity for one additional year contingent on performance.
